 unveilingchaos-1-1

It was just sex… Naomi’s life had been steady, in order, planned out… just the way she liked it. But when her boyfriend of five years leaves her for another woman and her mother makes a surprise reappearance in her life, she watches her controlled life fall into chaos. Then she meets, and has a one night stand with, Damien. The last thing on her mind is getting a new boyfriend, yet she can’t deny the attraction she feels, so when he offers no strings sex, it seems like the perfection solution. But the more she gets to know Damien, the more she learns all they have in common, and the line between casual and something more starts to blur. For all her planning, she realizes… you can’t plan love.

It was never just sex…

Damien’s life is busy and hardly ever in order. Between working two jobs, taking care of his sister, and saving up for his own tattoo studio, there are always surprises. When he meets Naomi, the last thing on his mind is getting a girlfriend, but he can’t deny the connection he feels. It’s clear she’s not ready for a relationship, though that won’t stop him from pursuing one… even if he has to lie to her about his intentions. But when one of the things that brought them together, slowly tears her apart, Damien has to make her see… the beauty in chaos.

High school is hard enough, Em knows. Her freshman year introduced her to all the cliques, annoying teachers, and tough homework assignments. But discovering you have super powers and not knowing how to control them is a whole new level of complicated.

Thankfully, Em isn’t alone. Her best friend Roz starts having unusual dreams that come true, and Tommy, Em’s secret crush, can hear the softest whispers in class.

A romance blossoms with Tommy. But just as things are looking up, people start dropping like flies. A telepathic serial killer is on the loose and only Em and her friends have a hope of stopping him.

Or do they? If they don’t figure out the killer’s identity soon, one of them could be next.

A Paranormal YA with mysteries to uncover. Our female protagonist is Emily, she lives with her mother and older sister (a.k.a the Ice Queen). Emily is a sophomore in high school and has a difficult time adjusting. Her one friend, Roz is her saving grace. Roz and her father are more constant and helpful in Emily’s life then her own family.

After a traumatic experiences Emily’s life begins to change even more. With the help of the new High School nurse and Roz, she is able to channel her new abilities for a positive outcome. There is also, a new boy at school, Tommy. He comes from the other side of the tracks and is treated as such in school, but Tommy and Emily are drawn to one another. They can each physically feel a differences when around one another.

Tommy is such a good guy. He is positive and protective. He is kind of Emily and Roz. He stands up for them and tries with all his might to be their protector. The author allowed for diversity in the book with her descriptions of Roz, Roz’s dad, and Tommy. We are able to have a more diverse group of high schoolers.

When I saw this picture I immediately thought of Roz. “her skin[..} a rich honey brown…bouncy, silky curls that extend past her shoulders, jet black in color, but with a midnight blue sheen when the sun hit it right. If I looked like you, I thought, I wouldn’t be nervous either.”

This is the before picture of Emma. I mean before she decided to start dolling herself up, and wearing more fitted clothes.

Side notes, I think Roz and Demetri (Tommy’s older brother, should have a fling). His silly and brute type of personality and her soft and reserved nature would balance out the other one.

Roz, Emily, and Tommy, find out they each have special abilities. Between the three of them, you can almost think of them as ‘the charmed ones.’

There were some reservations I had about the book. We were able to have a resolution with Scott and the Doctor, but what about Emily’s sister. It feels like she was a large part of the story and then she just disappeared. For someone that was such a large negative influence on our main characters, they really all the sudden stopped having situations with her.

I believe though in the next book, which I am assuming there will be, because we are left on a little cliff hanger (nothing to freak about over) that “The Ice Queen” will return with her vengeance.

I give it 3.5 hearts

Defying Gravity by Kendra C. Highley

Disclaimer: This book contains enough sexual tension to melt snow, the hottest near-kiss in the history of near-kisses, and a sexy snowboarder determined to win the heart of the girl he loves. Zoey Miller lives for her holidays in Aspen. Her time up on the mountain with the Madison brothers, Parker and Luke, is everything. But for the first time, it’s not enough. This time, she’s determined to win one of the brothers’ hearts.

But the brother she has in mind is a renowned player, with hordes of snow-bunnies following him around Snowmass resort. And the other…well, he’s her best friend and knows she deserves better. Namely him. And he’s going to win her heart.

There is no Wicked Witch of the west and no Good Witch from the North in this story. But… they do sing off key and somehow fly through the air on a board instead of a broom.Parker has been in love with his best friend, Zoey for two years now. They have been friends since they were little. Zoey lives in Texas and Parker lives in Aspen, Colorado. During the year Zoey’s family visit Parker’s family and together they spend holidays and summer vacations with each other. Parker’s love for Zoey has only grown and blossomed. He is determined to tell her this year and do something about it. Only, a large problems comes about, named Luke, Parker’s older brother.

Zoey is used to being called Barbie. She has the blonde hair and blue eye thing down. She is fit and smart, but her high school friends and peers don’t know the real Zoey. She honestly rather be in the snow on a board then anywhere. Her best friend in the world is a guy that she only gets to see a few times a year. She knows she can be herself with him, and that is all she wants. Things seem to be changing and she doesn’t want to ruin what she has with Parker, but she can’t help it if she is attracted to Luke. She is going to do what she can to win over the guy she wants. Whomever that may be.

This is a great friends-to-more story. Zoey reminds me of a friend I had (and still have) growing up. She was (still is)  beautiful, blonde, talented, and everyone loved her. I spoke to her one day and asked told her how jealous I was that all the boys just fall at her feet. She told me, “it may seem nice, but I honestly don’t know most of the time which guys are into me for my looks or into me for Me.” Every senses then I looked at her different. People thought she was a snob and stuck up, but I knew different. I think Zoey was in a similar situation. She was adored and admire for her beauty. Men/Guys would stop in their tracks, and worst part was, she had to keep up a certain persona, because of what people perceived. The only person she didn’t have to do that with was Parker. He saw her for who she truly was; without all the makeup and perfect hair. He truly loved her. A guy that is willing to be with you, when you are sick and don’t feel good, is a keeper.

some spoilers… Proceed with caution. I love Parker! This story is nice guys finish FIRST! I think we have so many bad-boy books that we miss the good guy ones. Parker is devoted to Zoey and his family. He would do anything for them. He is a good person, and an incredible snowboarder. He only does it as a hobby, because that isn’t what he wants to do for the rest of his life.

Luke was a total snob. I honestly wanted to punch the guy in the face so many times in this book. He may come off oh-so-cool, but do not be fooled.

This book was a fun and an easy read. I honestly love Entangled Crush books, they are just fun and leave you with your HEA.

I wish they would make a part 2 of Zoey and Parker’s story when they go to college, but honestly I doubt that will happen.

I give it 4 hearts.
Worth the read.
It will put a smile on your face
