Kate ships tons of fictional couples, but IRL her OTP is her and Mick, the hot quarterback she’s crushed on since, like, forever. With only one semester left of senior year, it’s now or never if she wants to land him in time for prom. Since she’s flirtationally challenged, she enlists Cooper Callihan, the guy who turned popular seemingly overnight but who used to be a good friend.

Cooper lives and breathes rowing, but his partner just broke his wrist. When he remembers Kate’s good with a set of oars, he strikes a deal: help him train, and he’ll make sure her crush notices her. Only he didn’t know how addicting spending time with her would be. Or how the more successful the Operation is, the more jealousy he experiences.

The mission has been set. The troops have their marching orders. But what if the target is the wrong guy all along?

Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains stargazing, accidental swimming, and poker swindling. This kissing practice will melt your eReader…and give you a new couple to ship.

I don’t know what it is about cheesy YA’s that give me a silly smile at the end of them, but this is another one that I was so excited the publisher’s let me read and review. Operation Prom Date is a quirky YA romance about a nerdy girl in desperate need to get her all time crush – the star quarterback of her high school – to go with her to Prom with her. So begins Operation Prom Date. Kate needs help, and not having an extensive amount of friends to aid her in this endeavor she turns to Copper. Copper helps Kate with her ‘so-called’ operation to get douche-football-Mike to see Kate as more of a hook-up kind of girl and less as the serious commitment one. They both didn’t factor into the operation unexpected variable; such as, falling for each other.

Kate is an only child. Her mother works real-estate and is busy keeping a roof over their heads. Her father passed away a few years prior while he was deployed for a mission with the Air Force. Ever since then she has felt more alone. During that same time frame, her best friend Amber ditched her for the popular girls at school, leaving Kate with no real friend in her life. She has internal issues of rejection because of her father’s constantly not being home and then sudden death; and with Amber choosing other girls over her, Kate struggles with have people be consistent in her life. With her mathematical calculations and shipping of TV couples (which means please put them in a ‘relationship’ already). Or her other phrasing OTP (One True Pairing). She would thought her and Mike would be OTP, but she wasn’t counting that her ‘friendship’ with Cooper would blossom into more.

Cooper lives for the water. He loves rowing. It is his escape from the home, where he has to walk on pins and needles because of his dad. Cooper’s father is a big time lawyer and is always busy. Third generation lawyer at the law firm that is named after his family, his whole life has been laid out for him. Go to Harvard, study Law, go to Law School, and take over the family business. Well, problem is Cooper doesn’t have any passion for anything with law. He rather study the water and the universe. He rather study and spend his time with Kate. He didn’t think have her fill in as his temporary rowing partner for a few weeks in exchange for aiding her with Operation Prom Date, would be that big of a deal. The more time he spent with Kate on the water and under the stars, the more he released that she had the brains and beauty he couldn’t help but fall for.

These two characters are extremely likable. Super sweet and have good heads on their shoulders. They have solid back stories which helps make them more relatable to the reader. They have fun playful dialogue, which Kate doesn’t realize is her flirting. The poor girl is clueless to flirting.

Supporting characters in this story that add more humor and fun are Kate’s mother. Think of Rory and Lorelai Gilmore kind of relationship. Then Jaden, Cooper’s friend and rowing partner.

Jaden has a twin sister that I would have loved to read more about. I think her character is similar to Kate, but with a twin brother and a Polynesian back ground it would add a different vibe to her story.

Should you read Kate and Cooper’s story?

Yes! It is a HEA and it is about Prom!

Tis the season for Prom shopping and dancing!

So one must partake in the Prom fun!

Cindi Madsen is a USA Today Bestselling author of contemporary romance and young adult novels. She sits at her computer every chance she gets, plotting revising, and falling in love with her characters. Sometimes it makes her a crazy person. Without it, she’d be even crazier. She has way too many shoes, but can always find a reason to buy a new pretty pair, especially if they’re sparkly, colorful, or super tall. She loves music, dancing, and wishes summer lasted all year long. She lives in Colorado (where summer is most definitely NOT all year long) with her husband and three children.
