Cheater by Rachel Van Dyken (Curious Liasons Book 1)
Lucas Thorn wasn’t born a cheater. All it took was a single moment—say, a certain disastrous incident on the night before his wedding—and boom. Reputation destroyed forever and always. So now he owns it. He has a lady friend for every night of the week (except Sundays—God’s day and all), and his rules are simple: No commitments. No exceptions.
But a certain smart-mouthed, strawberry blonde vixen is about to blow that all to hell.
Avery Black has never forgiven Lucas for cheating on her sister. And suddenly being forced to work with him is pretty much a nightmare on steroids. Of course, it does afford her the opportunity to make his life as difficult as possible. But no good revenge scheme comes without payback. Because he didn’t become the Lucas Thorn without learning a few things about women.
Now Avery’s lust for vengeance has turned into, well, lust. And if Lucas stops cheating, it’s definitely not because he’s falling in love…

When I first read the synopsis of the story I was intrigued to see how an ex-fiance would end up cheating the night before his wedding, and then end up with the younger sister. I know it sounds confusing, trust me I was lost too. Rachel Van Dyken does really good and showing different sides of a character. Their internal and external struggles. They two main characters are no different.
Avery Black is the youngest daughter of the Black girls. She always felt inferior to her two older sisters. Especially, Kayla, the eldest. Kayla was ten years older than Avery and had everything a girl could dream for. She was a cheerleader, dated the football player. She was homecoming queen, with said football player. She had it all, and Avery was too young to have any influence. She just lived in shadows and envied the privileges her sister was given.
Lucas Thorn was not born a cheater; nor, was it second nature to him. He was a devoted boyfriend for years to Kayla. He did everything that was excepted of him, even get engaged to Kayla. During that time he thought he was happy because everyone around him was, but when his attraction towards Avery begins to make him second guess everything, he doesn’t know what to do.
One mistake. One choice and everything was gone.
Lucas started over. For the last four years he decided committing wasn’t for him. He made arrangements to have a different girl Monday through Saturday. They each had their day of the week and if they wanted more he let them go and found a new girl to take their place. It was the perfect arrangement for a bachelor that doesn’t want to be tied down. He was successful, good-looking, and enjoying life. Avery was not a thought until , when he saw her in his office.
Avery refused to move back home. She moved to Seattle to escape her crazy family and the drama that comes with it. Ever since Kayla and Lucas end up NOT getting married, her family has been on pins and needles. Lucas was known has ‘he would do not speak of’ or her personal favorite Lucifer. When she got laid off from her job she had to find something fast. She took the first job that took her. Not knowing all the particulars. When she realized she was Lucas assistant she knew she was in Hell, with the Devil himself.
Now Avery and Lucas are in a sticky situation. With history between them and their family they are struggling with keeping each other at a distance. Ignoring though the large elephant in the room, AKA their attraction to each other, makes working in close proximity difficult. Then there is Lucas’s lifestyle she discovers. She wants no part of it, and the only way is to make sure she doesn’t become another day of his week.
The story was interesting. Some parts I wasn’t the biggest fan of, but realizing that Lucas chose his lifestyle because of pain and avoidance made the whole situation a lot more bearable.

I give the book a 4.
It was good on many levels and fun to read.
Just not something I would probably read again.
So I was wondering if there was going to be a book about Austin and Thatch. I looked into it and found my answer. THERE WILL BE!
It will be called Cheater’s Regrets and will be available this May!
