I found and read these two books thanks to Kindle Unlimited.
Within two days I read both of these books. I couldn’t put them down. Book one is a mature YA story line with our main character near the end of her senior year of high school. When her older brother comes home for spring break, with his HOT roommate, a connection is made between the two. A romance evolves and obstacles within their family, friends, and jealous acquaintances makes their relationship difficult at times.
Aislinn is 17 years old and will not be 18 till May. Her goals are to do her best in school, so she can maintain the scholarship she was rewarded to attend University of Florida. We are first introduced to her at home being trampled by a large dog. Now I had to look up what this type of dog looks like to get an honest picture in my head of how big the animal was. This breed can weight up to 160 lbs. They are called Caucasian Ovcharka, let’s just say it looks like a bear. Aislinn, also known as Ash, is a good kid. She does her best, stays out of trouble, but her big flaw is he doesn’t really have a back bone. She is very self-confession of her weight and size. She says she is a size 14, which honestly has become more of the average size. I love her best friend Penny who says, “Girl, you’re a friggin knockout. Your’re thick, not fat, Marilyn Monroe-type curves… Males with sense want meat, not bones like she has…Ash, guys want someone they can grab hold of and not worry they’re going to break a bone.”
SO TRUE WOMAN! Amen!
Tegaen, is our male protagonist, we don’t get much of a POV from him. We do in the Epilogues. Teeg is 22, a bouncer at a bar near the University, and he has a past. A past that at first Ash, gets over pretty quickly, but during the second book is comes crashing around them and shakes their relationship to the core. Teeg, is a doll and sees Ash, for the beauty she is on the inside and out.
I really enjoyed these two books. I do have a problem with the first one more then the second. How the heck does Ash and Teeg make a deep connection within days of meeting? I mean she thinks he is hot, and he knows it, but I wish we could see more of his POV when they first meet. I think it is difficult to see what he sees in a girl that is still in high school. Maybe if he knew more about her before he meet her, or he was enchanted by her beauty or something. I mean it just seemed kind of like “poof” we are totally attached to one another.
I asked the author about this and she informed me that she is “considering doing a novella” from Teeg’s POV during spring break.
Now in book 2 we already have a strong connection and Ash is now a freshman in college. Teeg is a senior and is supposed to be graduating soon. I like their dynamic and the obstacles that arise while attending college together. Ash’s roommate Annie is super sweet and becomes a total rock for her.
I asked some questions to the author and she responded back to me. Her answers are here.
- Are we going to have more of Ash and Teeg?
Answer: “Teeg and Ash are done. They’ll appear in other books, but as side characters. I’ll occasionally do a short story or flash fiction of them, but they’re done.”
- Are we ever going to know what happened to Penny and Conner? (Conner is Ash’s older brother- who is a total player and douche at times. There is stuff going on with him and Penny, but we don’t know. We are totally lost and only get glimpses of their conflicts. I hope we have more of them. I really want to know what happens.)
Answer: “Penny and Conner ARE getting a book! It’s called Enduring moments and I’m actually working on it now.”
- Ryan (from book 2) will he get his own story?
Answer: “Funnily enough… Ryan was never supposed to be on anyone’s radar. He was a throwaway character. But he took on a life of his own and I’ve gotten so many request for him. That yes, he’s getting his own book. It’s called Healing Moments.”
So should you read this series?
I enjoyed it. There are some parts that I am not a fan of, but the overall story and heart of the two characters was sweet.
Also, if you have KU I say why not?
