If you are a Kaylee Ryan fan be warned this book is a little different. We usually go back and forth between our two main characters, but the majority of this book is from the POV of our leading man, Ridge. He took over his dad’s construction company. With his 4 best friends these five guys work and party together. A one night stand, for Ridge, ends up turning his life upside-down. I can’t say too much because within the first 15% of the book you are thrown a few curve balls. It is crazy.I was a little sad and confused at the beginning with our female character Melissa. Her story and situation, I wish we could have learned more about and had some back story with her. It would be cool to see if Kaylee Ryan writes a novella about Melissa.
Our second female Kendall we are not introduced to till about 27% into the story. She works as a nurse in a pediatric office. She becomes a rock not only for Reagan and Knox, but especially for Ridge.
From the cover you can tell there is a baby in the story. Ridge become a father and a single one at that within the span of 24 hours. It is such a sad situation you may need some tissues nearby. Being by himself and trying to raise a baby is tough enough. He has the aid of his parents and sister, who come and rescue him, but Ridge wants to prove that he can handle raising Knox on his own. He is learning everything for the first time and he had no preparation for it. One of my favorite scenes is when Ridge goes to the store and ends up buying a tone of stuff for baby Knox. Everything from bouncers, clothes, pacifiers, burp clothes, etc. You name it he had it in his over flowing chart. It was so endearing. I loved it.
Baby Knox is blessed. The fact that Ridge didn’t just hand the infant to Child Services was so admirable. I think it is heartwarming to see (as the reader) a big, strong, burly man holding an infant with such tenderness.
Kendall is so smart and patient. She gives Ridge confidence in his ability to raise his son. There is an attraction between Ridge and Kendall that is obvious to everyone around them. Ridge gets razed on by his best friends. Kendall and Ridge develop a relationship that has the ability to evolve into something more. It only comes about with the help of Reagan, the guys, and baby Knox.
This story is VERY similar to Southern Pleasure. Now I will say I liked Southern Pleasure more, BUT this story is beautiful. It is different and heartfelt. Kaylee Ryan wrote something that was not expected, but was greatly embraced. I hope you all read it, and if all else fails, share it with a single dad. He might get a kick out of it.
