Sky Lopez thought she had it all—the perfect job, the perfect relationship, the perfect life…until she discovers her not-so-perfect boyfriend has been cheating on her. So when her uncle asks her to help plan his Hamptons wedding, Sky jumps at the chance, leaving all of her “perfect” future plans in the rearview mirror.
The wedding doesn’t prove as good a distraction as she’d hoped, because when her relatives and friends find out she’s single, they put Sky in their match-making sights. Never mind that she’s only twenty four. Never mind that she doesn’t want to settle for anyone other than Mr. Right. Seemingly everyone in Sky’s life wants her to get married and have babies. Like, yesterday.
So when Hayden—a sweet, sexy roofer—plummets through the ceiling and practically falls into her lap, she can’t help but think that maybe nice guys do just fall from the sky.
Soon Sky finds herself juggling crumbling wedding plans, the cheating ex who’s trying to win her back, the cute plastic surgeon her family thinks is perfect for her, and the hot roofer she can’t seem to get off her mind.
As the wedding date draws closer, Sky will need to choose one—or none—to keep herself from falling off the ledge, and maybe into love.
Was given a ARC from author for honest review.
I didn’t read the first book in this series, but that was okay. This can be a complete stand alone, which I like. It makes it so much easier to be able to read a series, but know they are also solid stores in their own right
Think of this story as a mix of My Big Fat Greek Wedding + Because I Said So + The Real House Wives of New Jersey. Our female protagonist Sky, is on the run. Running from her broken heart that was shattered in Boston from her former boyfriend (we shall call him the “Cheating Scum-Bag”). She left her job, as a nurse, and is currently living with her Uncles. Sky is helping plan their wedding in the Hampton’s and this has allowed her to ignore all the other outside distractions. That is until all her extended and immediate family begin to show up for the wedding. The story takes places in the span of an approximately a month.
Sky refers to the wedding and family event as, “My Big fat Italian-Ecuadorian Gay Wedding.” Which in a nut shell means I loved it. If you are familiar with Hispanic cultural you will get a kick out of this book.
am married into an El Salvadorian family, so I understood many of the Hispanic references. The way the parents are. The pressure and teasing from ALL the family. The taboos and the constant medaling. Well I guess you get that in most families anyway.
I really enjoyed this story. I loved that Sky was so hesitant to fall for anyone because of the heartbreak she went through with her ex-boyfriend. He cheated on her and that made her unable to trust. Her Uncles were her inspiration for a health and, happy couple. That was all she wanted.
Why I loved this book.
- Gay Uncles! I have 2 sets so I love them and totally think everyone should have their own.
- The wedding. The family is helpful to the point of pain. It is great. Seriously Big Fat Greek Wedding up in this book. Totally enjoyed that.
- We have a female protagonist that isn’t white. I know that sounds messed up, but I like those book that the girl and or guy have some color to them. So rock on.
- The guy, Hayden, is the nice sweet guy. He isn’t your brooding jerk. He actually is your all around good guy. You root for him through the whole book.
Totally worth the read.
We have family drama, self-discovery,
diversity, hot romance,
and a wedding!
Come on who wouldn’t love this book!
