This is Falling (Falling #1) by Ginger Scott

First, I had to remember how to breathe. Then, I had to learn how to survive. Two years, three months and sixteen days had passed since I was the Rowe Stanton from before, since tragedy stole my youth and my heart went along with it.

When I left for college, I put a thousand miles between my future and my past. I’d made a choice—I was going to cross back to the other side, to live with the living. I just didn’t know how.

And then I met Nate Preeter.

An All-American baseball player, Nate wasn’t supposed to notice a ghost-of-a-girl like me. But he did. He shouldn’t want to know my name. But he did. And when he learned my secret and saw the scars it left behind, he was supposed to run. But he didn’t.

My heart was dead, and I was never supposed to belong to anyone. But Nate Preeter had me feeling, and he made me want to be his. He showed me everything I was missing.

And then he showed me how to fall.

*This is a standalone in a three-part series that will focus on different characters. Each book can be read on its own.

When I first started reading this book it reminded me of the book Choosing You by Allie Everhart.

The concept of a female that is scared and in a new place and a hot guy that takes her under his wing.  Now obviously they both go their different directions, but I really liked Choosing You. So if you haven’t read This is Falling, and you liked Choosing You then you will enjoy this book; and vice-versa.

We are introduced to our protagonist female, Rowe, who is from Arizona and lived through a tragic experiences. She has suffered with Post-Traumatic-Stress for the past two years, causing her to be home-schooled. She was barely living, but with the help of her parents and therapist she went to college. She picked McCollen University in Oklahoma. There she meets Nate Preetre. He is gorgeous (in her eyes) and scares the crap out of her.  She is not ready for anything romantic, but she is trying to make friends.

Nate Preetre is from Louisiana, born and raised southern boy. After an accident that left his brother in a wheel chair he felt it was his duty to carry on his brothers dreams of playing college baseball. Nate is a catcher, and a darn good one. He chose to go to school in Oklahoma so he can be with his brother. He meets Rowe and immediately is captivated by her. His exact phrase is “She is my type.”

These two have a world wind relationship through their first semester together. Through the semester her and Nate’s relationship blooms (with the help of all their roommates). They each overcome their own personal struggles and help each other grow emotionally, socially, and athletically.

I am already a big fan of Ginger Scott’s some of her books are on my top 10 Must Read List and some I like, but not as much. This one falls in between. “This is Falling” I truly enjoyed. I think this story covers so many emotional levels. This isn’t about first loves, but it is about not giving up on who you want to be. There are people in our lives that come into it to help us become who we are supposed to be. I think that for Nate and Rowe they were each the person that the other one needed to get through some tough stuff. You can tell that Ginger Scott loved writing this. There was so much love for these two characters in between the lines of the pages. Also, it is a baseball based book, which if you know this author, she is a HUGE baseball fan.

I loved Rowe. She is the girl you just want to give a big hug to. She wants so bad to move on with her life, but is struggling. She wants to live again, but doesn’t know really how or what to do. Nate, Ty, Paige, and Cass all play a part in Rowe’s road to recovery. I love college stories, because unlike high school ones, it is about starting a new chapter in one’s life all on their own.

The question:
Should you read this book?

Why, Yes!
I think you should.
You will enjoy it.
It isn’t a YA Sports, but an NA Sports Romance. If you love those.
Go for it, you will not be disappointed.
